This position is responsible for providing both primary and specialty medical services.

Responsibilities:

- Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.
- Performs physical examinations.
- Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.
- May perform bone marrow aspirations and biopsies, skin biopsies, lumbar punctures; administers intrathecal chemotherapy; and may participate in bone marrow harvests.
- Monitors the level of and adjusts immunosuppressive medications.
- Orders and supervises the administration of blood products.
- Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.
- Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management.
- Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
- Assists in the collection of data for research projects.
- Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.
- Participates in special projects and committee functions.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
- Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
- The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
- The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Qualifications:

Required

- Current licensure to practice as a Physician’s Assistant from the State of Utah.

Qualifications (Preferred):

Preferred

- Utah State prescriptive privilege preferred.
- Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
- To obtain licensure requires graduation from an AMA approved Physician Assistant program. Specialty experience is preferred on a position-by-position basis.
- UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.

The position offered is designed to work primarily with one foot and ankle subspecialist orthopaedic surgeon. The surgeon's practice takes place at both the University of Utah Medical Center and Park
City: Medical Center. The applicant must be credentialed in both facilities and support of both practices is expected. There are call responsibilities associated with the Park
City: practice that will be coordinated through the Rosenberg, Cooley, Metcalf Clinic practice. No call responsibilities are anticipated at the University location. Clinical duties will include evaluating patients in clinics and conducting clinics independently once clinical competencies are verified. Additionally, surgical care in concert with the attending physician is expected. While most activities will involve the routine care of patients, it is anticipated that the applicant function in support of academic endeavors, specifically clinically based research at both facilities.
